ALFREDO PALMERO Biography

ALFREDO PALMERO

Born in Barcelona in 1966, Alfredo Palmero hails from a lineage of artists that began with his grandfather, Maestro Palmero, with whom he shared his name and a great love of painting. From his grandfather he learned the academic basis and realistic composition to develop a style of his own. His harlequins are famous, a metaphor for the artist himself and a clear homage to the Picassan avant-garde, or his particular meninas (young maids in waiting),a personal reincarnation of those of Velazquez. He gives his characters looks that implore directly to the spectator, figures that form part of surrealistic surroundings. Departing from academic drawing, intertwining tradition with the contemporary, the works of Alfredo Palmero rise up in current remains from a lineage committeed to the pallet. Classicism and the contemporary form a bipolar work which the author handles with natualness and where his personal vision of painting excels. Alfredo Palmero is known for his portraits of H.M.King Don Juan Carlos and his son, Prince Felipe. His works are collected by various Royal families, Casa de Alba Foundation and the International Olympic Committee ex-president Juan Antonio Samaranch among others.
