Slippery Tibbs was a prospector seen through the Klondike Gold Fields and known for preying on naive gold seekers looking for a guide to bring them to fortune. He made promises to these novice gold seekers he would come across in Skagway and nearby Dyea, Alaska. Once he had his retainer fee for his services, he would disappear for weeks on end, avoiding any confrontations with the law.
